The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is inviting online applications for the engagement of Project Staff, including Project Scientists (“E”, “III”, “II”, “I”) and Scientific Assistants, on a contractual basis under the Mission Mausam Scheme. These positions are purely temporary, with an initial engagement of one year, extendable annually based on satisfactory performance, until March 31, 2026, or the project concludes, whichever is earlier

3. Admin. Assistant

  • Essential Qualification: (a) Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised University or Institute; and (b) Passed Computer Proficiency Test.

✍️ How to Apply

The final selection will be based on the candidate’s performance before the Selection Board.

Due to the possibility of a large number of applications, IMD may restrict the candidates called for the interview through a screening process.

Based on the job requirements, focus your preparation on the following key areas:

Project Scientists (Forecasting & Climate – Codes 02, 03, 06, 07, 08, 11, 12, 13, 20)

  • Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP): Master the fundamentals of weather forecasting models (Nowcasting, Short-Range, Medium Range, Long-Range)

  • HPC and Programming: Practice working with High Performance Computing System (HPCS) and programming languages like FORTRAN 90 and C/C++.

  • Data Analysis Tools: Gain proficiency in meteorological data analysis tools such as GrADS, FERRET, NCL, NCO, CDO.

  • Data Formats: Be conversant with large volume data formats like NetCDF, HDF, GRIB.

  • System Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of UNIX/LINUX System Administration.

  • Specific Domain:

    • Agro-Meteorology: Focus on crop simulation models, Remote Sensing/GIS for Agromet advisories.

    • Climate: Understand Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Coupled General Circulation Models and climate predictions (seasonal/extended).
